01/09/10 – Burnout – A process in glass fusing where certain material is pre-fired to remove any undesired material. This material is generally an organic binder that needs to be heated out of the material before it can be used for fusing purposes. This is not to say that the material can’t also burn out the organic material during the firing process. Sometimes this involves using fiber paper to hold a space open in a glass piece. In this case the organic binder burns out during the firing process.

I am continuing to update the site with general information for individuals new to the glass fusing experience. This particular page is linked from the Technical Terms page.
