Needle Points

08/18/10 – Needle Points – Needle points are sharp spiky spots on the edges of a fired piece of glass. These can be caused by taking the glass too high and holding it at this temperature, firing one layer of glass on a kiln washed shelf or by fusing too little frit inside a mold. They can be prevented, but if they do appear on a finished piece they can be removed. Using a grinder or some polishing pads the edge can be smoothed out and re-fired to achieve a polished edge.
